Welcome to Kay Kay's Kitchen!
Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Karen King. First of all, let me say this: I am not a chef or a culinary student. I am just a lady who loves to cook. As a matter of fact, cooking is in my blood. Back in the late 1960's, my family owned a cafe in Selma, Alabama called "King's Cafe," where they served traditional Soul Food such as neck bones and candied yams, fried chicken, black eyed peas and collard greens. My grandmother, Lillie Bell, was well known for her homemade cakes and pies and the home cooked meals that she use to prepare and sell to the city workers. She also provided meals for the visitors of the Annual Baptist Bible Convention. My mother, Audrey, has owned and operated a successful on site catering business for the past 25 years. She has catered luncheons for as few as 20 people to large receptions for as many as 750 people. So you see, cooking really is in my blood and we love every minute of it!
As for my personal credentials, I really don't have any. At work I was known as the "Queen of Pies." Granted, this may not seem like a big deal to you but for the average at-home cook, it was a very distinctive honor. Whenever the mood would hit, I would experiment and prepare something scrumptious to share with my co-workers and they would go nuts over it. Even people from other departments, whom we rarely saw, would receive word about the treats and find some excuse to make their way up to our area. For the aspiring cook, there is no greater honor than to have your friends (and family) enjoy the fruits of your labor.
The purpose of this blog is two-fold: first, to expand my cooking parameters by testing some creative and delectable dishes and second, to allow you the opportunity to join me on this little adventure. Put your aprons on, get your measuring cups out and let's see what's on the menu for today.
Karen
